Earth for all – A Survival Guide for Humanity (05.04.2023)

On Wednesday 5 April, the first of a new series of high-level talk shows with live band under the name Beau Lieu Cafe took place, hosted by the Club of Rome EU-Chapter and Club of Rome International, from 18:30-20:30 at the Residence Palace (Schumann area). Topic was the report “Earth for All”. This lively talk show was moderated by CoR EU Chapter President and former DG Environment Karl Falkenberg and had musical support from the funky band ‘Time=Tijd’. The three special panel guests on the red sofa were Sandrine Dixson-Declève (Co-President of the Club of Rome International), Kerstin Jorna, Director-General GROW, and Len Ishmael (former ambassador of the Eastern Caribbean States to Belgium and the EU).

More than 100 participants attended the discussion. The live registration and future registrations can be watched here on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWvBcvQvLlY&t=1418s

This was the first of a series of Beau Lieu Cafés hosted by the Club of Rome EU-Chapter and co-hosted by ps4sd.eu.

SDGs in Better Regulation for Evidence-Informed Policymaking (04.05.2023)

On 4th May, a Beau Lieu Café debate on “SDGs in Better Regulation for Evidence-Informed Policymaking” took place at the Residence Palace in the Schumann Area in Brussels. Special guests are: Sarah Nelen, Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Executive Vice-President Timmermans of the European Commission; Jan Mareš, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at the Environment Ministry of the Czech Republic, ; and Daniel Trnka, Deputy Head of the Regulatory Policy Division, OECD. After the European Commission in 2021 decided to integrate the Sustainable Development goals in its Better regulation tools (impact assessments, evaluations), a series of peer learning workshops started with EU member states, Commission, OECD and other experts, organised by the think tank Public Strategy for Sustainable Development, with a grant from the German Federal Environment Ministry. Many countries have since then updated their Better Regulation tools. In this Beau Lieu Café we discuss how this helps to better inform policymaking, the political dimension, and possible next steps. The livestream is available here: https://www.youtube.com/@ps4sd

FarmFood and Planetary Boundaries (17.10.2023)

The 3rd Beau Lieu Café of this year on 17.10.2023 in Brussels was a great success, with 100 participants interacting in a lively debate on “Farm, Food and Planetary Boundaries”. Three excellent panel guests @Humberto Rosa, @Isabel Boerdam and @Luc Bas were moderated as always by @Karl Falkenberg, supported by the Four Brothers Jazz Band as our house band. The livestream remains available here: https://lnkd.in/e6XsFGv5
