Who we are

The Club of Rome EU-Chapter (CoR-EU) is an independent non-profit association, registered under Belgian law, affiliated with the Club of Rome International. As a Brussels-based think tank we promote and underpin transitions towards more peaceful and sustainable societies that respect planetary limits.

Our mission is to act as a catalyst for reflection on sustainable development in Europe. To achieve this, we support building bridges between the institutions of the European Union, EU Member States and subnational governments, stakeholders and EU citizens.

How we relate to the Club of Rome international

The Club of Rome international formulates its relationships with nattional and other Chapters as follows:

The Club of Rome has supporters in many countries. In some countries, these supporters have decided to create a National Association or Chapter to promote debates and activities related to the global agenda of the Club of Rome in local, regional or national contexts. National Associations are separate legal entities. Consequently, they are independent bodies and as such not part of the international Club of Rome, which are neither managed nor supervised as subsidiaries of the Club of Rome. The Club however welcomes their activities and commitment to common goals.

In the Statutes of the Club of Rome EU-Chapter this is reflected as follows: We will  “contribute to the research agenda of the European institutions in accordance with the objectives of the Club of Rome, particularly on topics related to European policy change for sustainable development. Specifically, this concerns Europe’s relations with its partners worldwide and their internal change.”

The EU-Chapter  “collaborates with other Club of Rome branches, regional support centers, and appropriate external partners.” (See also our webpage dedicated to cooperation with National Club of Rome Chapters in Europe).
