Sustainable Finance & Investments in Turbulent Times

At this Club of Rome EU Chapter evening we explore the critical role of finance in driving real-world decarbonisation. Capital allocation does more than chase returns; it shapes which technologies and business models scale and which stagnate. In our conversation with Jack Azoulay, Managing Partner at Argos Fund and former Chief of Staff at the French Ministry of Ecological Transition, we will examine how private equity investments can be a lever for sustained emissions reduction, the challenges of aligning financial performance with climate impact, and lessons drawn from instruments such as the Argos Climate Action Fund. As discussant we welcome Sabine Bourdy, Head of Unit Green Finance and Investments of DG Environment at the European Commission. The session will focus on how investment strategies can meaningfully support net zero transitions while delivering strong financial performance; what distinguishes rigorous climate finance from greenwashing; where policy and private capital intersect to accelerate decarbonisation pathways; and how to leverage finance for environment in general. Karl Falkenberg, President of the Club of Rome EU-Chapter will moderate the discussion. Register here!
